Block Master Scoring Explained

Block Master awards one point per placed cell, 18 points per completed row, column, or box, a quadratic bonus for clearing several units in one move, and five points times the current consecutive-clear streak. This formula is specific to Block Master.

Working definition: Move score equals placement cells plus 18 times completed units plus 12 times completed units minus one squared, plus five times the active clear streak. The multi-clear term is zero for a single clear.

Three worked totals

A three-cell bar with no clear scores 3 points and resets the clear streak. The same bar completing one row on the first clearing turn scores 3 + 18 + 5, or 26 points. There is no multi-clear bonus because only one unit completed.

A single cell completing a row and column on a second consecutive clearing turn scores 1 + 36 + 12 + 10, or 59 points. The two units are detected together and the streak has advanced from one to two.

Worked position: compare the visible open lanes before choosing a piece.

Triple-clear example

A four-cell square completes a row, column, and box. Placement adds 4, clears add 54, the multi-clear bonus is 12 times four, and a third-turn streak adds 15. The total is 121 points.

The quadratic bonus rewards rare intersections, but points should not be confused with board health. A high-scoring move can leave no fit for the remaining tray. Use scoring to compare reward and the analyzer to compare flexibility.

Sequence and daily fairness

Endless sessions use a locally generated seed and daily play uses the UTC date string. The piece order does not respond to the player's score or identity. Everyone using the same daily date seed receives the same sequence.

The formula and sequence rule are published so results can be reproduced. They do not copy or claim compatibility with another commercial puzzle game. A future formula change would require a visible version and review date.

Field notes and measurable checks

Write the formula in four columns when auditing a turn: placed cells, completed units, multi-clear count, and clear streak. For a five-cell piece completing two units on streak three, the entries are 5, 36, 12, and 15, totaling 68. Separating terms makes a disagreement easy to locate and prevents the streak from being added on a non-clearing move.

The multi-clear bonus grows with the square of units minus one. One unit adds zero, two add 12, three add 48, and four add 108. This rewards rare overlaps without changing the base value of a row, column, or box. Because the bonus rises quickly, the board-health comparison is an important counterweight to point-focused decisions.

A streak counts consecutive turns that clear at least one unit, not the number of units in the last turn. Clearing three units on the first clearing turn creates streak one. Clearing one unit on the next turn creates streak two. Placing any piece without a clear resets the value before a later clearing turn begins a new streak at one.

Reproducible daily scoring needs both a deterministic sequence and deterministic rules. The UTC seed supplies the same piece batches, while placement choices determine each player's board and points. There is no adaptive response to a high score. Two players who make identical placements on the same date will receive identical clear detection and score deltas under the current formula.

A repeatable decision routine

  1. Count the cells in the placed piece.
  2. Count every row, column, and box completed together.
  3. Apply the multi-clear term when more than one unit completes.
  4. Add streak points only when the move clears a unit.

Common mistakes

  • Applying the multi-clear bonus to a single clear.
  • Adding streak points on a non-clearing move.
  • Assuming Block Master scoring matches another puzzle game.

Try the routine on the practice board, then compare your own position in the analyzer. The shared engine keeps the examples, measurements, and game rules consistent.

Questions about this strategy

How many points is one row clear with a single cell?

On the first clear turn it is 1 placement + 18 clear + 5 streak, or 24.

Does a box score differently from a row?

No. Each completed unit contributes 18 clear points.

Does a no-clear move keep the streak?

No. The clear streak resets to zero.
